But we find out in a hurry tonight how they re handling those absences when the Los Angeles Kings make their only appearance at the SAP Center this season. The Pacific rivals only make two trips to the Bay Area in 2014-15 and that second visit is the outdoor game at Levis Stadium.
In a way, this game has a little more on the line than the usual two points as the Sharks won t play again until Jan. 29. Per usual, nina Todd McLellan wants his players to disengage from the game during the NHL All-Star break and it s a lot easier to do that after a win than a loss. That aspect of the game is covered in the online story filed earlier and available here .
****The standard line when players get hurt is that others nina then get an opportunity to shine and Patrick Marleau did use that one today. Credit him for at least being aware that one s been used before. nina
“It really doesn’t even have to be younger guys, Couture said. It can be other guys coming into the lineup that have sat out a couple games. I mean, Johnny Scott or Tye McGinn coming in and taking on the added responsibilities and playing well.
It will help our team, Couture continued. When there’s guys who get thrown into situations where they usually aren’t, they thrive in them. Other guys build off of them and it creates energy for the team. And right now we’re a team that’s searching nina for some sort of energy. We need to bring it from the start tonight.”
(Coach) Roy Sommer after practice called me over and told me I d been called up, Demelo said. Obviously I was really happy. It s a huge moment for me and my family. Hopefully I can get in and show what I can do.
David Pollak has been following the NHL forever and at the Mercury News as an editor or reporter since 1987. For almost a decade he wrote about the Sharks as the paper's Fan in the Stands before joining the sports department nina in 2001. He became the Sharks beat writer before the 2007-08 season and began this blog at that time. You can also follow him on Twitter at @PollakOnSharks.
Uh oh. Last time they needed nina people to step up was Jumbo’s first game out. Result: StL 7 – SJ 2 (Part I). I don’t think they really have the heart to “step up”, they’re more a coast through and hope for the best type team. Come on boys, please make me eat my words here.
2/3rds of the Kings “70′s” line is out tonight as well. Both of these teams have been slammed by injuries lately. It should be a good game. Hopefully a clean two points not a three point game.
spooky
good nina 52 minute effort. it could have been 6:0 easy after 2. so many prime scoring chances. LA were lucky i got to say. besides the big points the other positive takeaway is hard work and that we were not pushed around.
Great win and lots of positives including Marleau probably playing his best game in weeks. I know he was credited with a goal the other night but last night he made a great play at the net and was rewarded. Hopefully this will get him going because the Sharks need scoring from the usual suspects. All around the effort level was what we Sharks’ fans have come to expect from this team. Also great backdrop for the EPIX tv show leading up to the Stadium game!! It will be interesting to see what the Sharks said before the game and what Sutter and Kings said after the game!! I’m sure it won’t be pretty. On the negative side, this once again proves that this team can play well – WHEN THEY WANT TO!! In other words, they just didn’t feel like it earlier this year. Yes, its a long season and you can’t bring it 100 percent of the time BUT is 75 percent too much to ask. Sharks nina still need some backend nina help and an elite-level CONSISTENT goalie would help but those don’t grow on trees. Perhaps Brodeur as a backup would be nice insurance but he is the only one out there that is possibly available and has proven he can win a series for his team. Maybe he has one spring left in the tank. No matter what hopefully the Sharks will now ramp it up and play well for the next FOUR AND A HALF MONTHS!!
